Kering appoints Demna Gvasalia as new Artistic Director of Gucci
Italian label Gucci and its parent company, Kering has announced the appointment of Demna Gvasalia as the House’s new Artistic Director, starting early July 2025.
The Georgian fashion designer who is the co-founder of Vetements and also the creative director of Kering owned Balenciaga succeeds Sabato De Sarno who exited last month after two years.
‘Demna’s contribution to the industry, to Balenciaga, and to the Group’s success has been tremendous. His creative power is exactly what Gucci needs. As I thank him for everything he has accomplished over the past 10 years, I look forward to seeing him shape Gucci’s new artistic direction,’ Francois-Henri Pinault, Chairman & CEO of Kering, stated in a press release.

A graduate in International Economics from Tbilisi State University in 2001, he pursued his passion for fashion, at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp, winning the ITS Collection of the Year award in 2004 and graduating in 2006. In 2014 he launched his label, Vetements to much acclaim and was later appointed Artistic Director of Balenciaga in 2015.
Demna has earned global recognition for redefining modern luxury, and has cemented his authority on the industry. He has received numerous accolades, including International Ready-to-Wear Designer of the Year and recognition on Time 100’s Most Influential People list.
