Bulgari launches Serpenti Through the Eyes Of Casablanca
Italian luxury brand Bulgari has tapped French menswear label Casablanca to reinterpret its iconic Serpenti Forever bag.
The capsule is part of Bulgari’s ongoing collaborative series ‘Serpenti through the eyes of…’ that was first established in 2017, and has seen collaborations with designers such as Yoon Anh of Tokyo-based fashion label Ambush, Greek designer Mary Katrantzou and Nicholas Kirkwood.
Titled ‘Bulgari x Casablanca’ the limited-edition collection consists of seven-pieces divided into two chapters they will be launched in two drops: Apres Tennis on April 20 and Mosaic Line on May 20. Redefined and reborn, the collection marks the first time that Bulgari has used wood in its handbag designs to make the bag more versatile for everyday use.
Inspired by the sport of Tennis and Casablanca’s sportive-lifestyle aesthetic the Apres Tennis line comprises of four styles: the Serpenti Forever leather bag with a detachable wood handle, an angular Jewelry Box leather bag, a Tote leather bag with large Bulgari logo, and a Serpenti Crossbody leather mini bag with removable leather strap. Each of these styles are distinguished by white perforated leather, gold-plated hardware, wood handles and Bulgari’s iconic enameled snake head.
The Mosaic comprises of three styles inspired from various villas and landmarks in Rome, the city in which Bulgari was founded: the Serpenti Forever leather bag with detachable wood handle, Mosaic Tote leather bag, Mosaic Serpenti Crossbody leather bag. All of the styles feature mosaic-like finish printed on raised texture on calf leather and Bulgari’s iconic snakehead closure.
For Casablanca who was one of the shared winners of the LVMH Prize for Young Designers in 2020, the collection marks its first major collaboration with a luxury brand and its second overall following 2020’s New Balance sneakers.
‘With Bulgari we share the same love and respect for timeless codes and the ambition to interpret them in new ways: this is the prism we have played with on this collaboration. The collection is both modern and classic at the same time. Serpenti has a thousand-year old iconography behind it and we wanted to bring it back once more but in a modern way, playing with its aesthetic features,’ said Casablanca creative director Charaf Tajer.
The ‘Bulgari x Casablanca’ capsule will be available in selected Bulgari boutiques worldwide this April and May with pre-orders available online at the Bulgari website on Mar 31 and May 5 respectively.
