Balenciaga unveils collaboration with Yeezy Gap
Luxury French fashion house Balenciaga and Kanye West’s Yeezy Gap are joining forces for a Yeezy Gap x Balenciaga capsule.
Titled ‘Yeezy Gap Engineered By Balenciaga’ the line is one of this year’s most anticipated fashion collaborations and will bring together the rapper and Georgian designer Demna Gvasalia, who has been designing ready-to-wear clothing for Balenciaga for six years. To mark the announcement Yeezy Gap unveiled a new logo in black with YZY in caps.
West (who goes by the name Ye since October), worked at Gap as a teenager in Chicago and has a proven track record with Gap. In 2020 he signed a 10-year deal with the retailer in 2020 for the joint brand Yeezy Gap led by Lagos-born designer Mowalola Ogunlesi. The first piece from Yeezy Gap was a $200 Round Jacket which crashed Gap’s website, and sold out instantly online when it launched last fall.
‘This first of its kind launch sees Ye’s peerless vision bring together the most influential designer of his generation, Demna, with iconic American brand, Gap,’ the brand said in a statement.
The ‘Yeezy Gap Engineered By Balenciaga’ line is expected to launch later this year with the first collection dropping sometime in June while a second drop will follow later in the year.
