Gucci launches its first entirely sustainable collection
Italian luxury house Gucci has launched its first-ever sustainable collection under the leadership of creative director Alessandro Michele.
Titled ‘Gucci Off The Grid’ the genderless collection is the first drop from its Circular Lines initiative which was created to support the House’s commitment to circular production.
Comprising of ready-to-wear pieces, accessories, and shoes, as well as unisex luggage the collection is made using recycled, organic, bio-based, and sustainably sourced materials as well as ECONYL, a type of regenerated nylon made from nylon offcuts and pre-and post-consumer waste. Altogether, the collection is designed for those mindful of their environmental impact.
To accompany the launch of the collection launched an international advertising campaign in Los Angeles, shot by photographer and director Harmony Korine. The campaign features Jane Fonda, Academy Award-winning actress, producer, author and activist, GRAMMY Award-winning rapper, singer and songwriter Lil Nas X, King Princess, singer, songwriter, instrumentalist, and music producer, guitarist, singer-songwriter, record producer and actor Miyavi, and David de Rothschild, environmentalist and explorer as metropolitan explorers. They each wear pieces from the new collection standing and sitting in a treehouse in the city, ready to-as the line’s label suggests open the door to a new beginning
‘The collection is the result of teamwork; everybody brought something to it. And in the campaign, too, there is this idea of dialogue among people building something new. I imagined that we could build a treehouse in a city center, all together, like kids playing in the park. Because all of us need to build this house or to find out that our planet exists, even where it seems it’s not there, or it’s far away,’ said Gucci’s creative director Alessandro Michele.
The ‘Gucci Off The Grid’ collection is available now on its website.
