Givenchy appoints Matthew Williams as its new creative director
The House of Givenchy has found a successor for Clare Waight Keller and has appointed Matthew M. Williams as its Creative Director, effective June 16th, 2020.
The 34-year-old American designer behind the cult label 1017 ALYX 9SM will take on all creative responsibilities for Women’s and Men’s collections. He will also continue to produce collections for Alyx alongside his new role.

A self-taught designer, Williams grew up in California and made a name for himself in the fashion world by collaborating with musicians including Lady Gaga and Kanye West. He also worked closely with Virgil Abloh, with whom he founded the creative platform Been Trill in 2012. Three years later, he made his debut in the fall / winter season 2015/16 with his label Alyx which is named after his eldest daughter. The cult label had been shortlisted for the LVMH Prize in 2016.
Williams will present his first collection for Givenchy in October 2020.
