Model Of The Week: Laura Sorensen

Laura Sorensen

Each week, we take the time to highlight one of our favorite emerging models. Previously, we profiled Croatian beauty Karla Kirschner, and this week we’re turning our attention to Laura Sorensen. We caught with the Danish to talk about her career so far, her passion for modeling, and her plans for the future.

Have you always wanted to be a model? If not, what did you want to be growing up?
No, not at all. It actually never crossed my mind until I got scouted. I’m a grown-up now and what I exactly want to be is still in progress haha. It will probably continue this way as long as I live. For me, the only requirement has always been to work with something which inspires and brings joy to me instead of being a duty.

How were you scouted?
Long story short. At the age of 15, I got scouted by different agencies when visiting bigger cities. While shopping in Aarhus, Denmark I got scouted by Le management whom I have been happily signed with since.

How would you describe yourself as a model in three words?
Hard-working, reliable, smiling

Your first modeling job?
I was in an editorial called ‘The Ones to Watch’ on Models.com. As a funny side note, I thought the story would be published in an unknown print magazine. So, with no knowledge of what Models.com is, I was pretty disappointed when I realized that it was ‘only’ published on a website.

What is your favorite or most exciting aspect about being a model?
I am in a kind of love/hate relationship with this very loose and uncertain life due to this job. But even though it often makes planning a bit difficult, I love the excitement about never knowing which jobs, funny destinations, and inspiring people tomorrow brings.

Is there anyone that you admire as a role model and why?
I have always said I do not only have one. Everyone I meet become some kind of role model to me, both in how I want to be and what I will strive for not to become. Often, it is the spontaneous conversations with taxi drivers or with someone on the plain that becomes the biggest eye-openers due to their completely different life position, culture, and insight.

What is your dream shoot/campaign?
I have always been dreaming of shoots that would bring me close to nature and wildlife. I am forever in love with the image starring Janice Dickson 1983 with her posing on the African savannah next to a big cheetah.

Biggest lesson that modeling has taught you?
Everyone will always have different opinions about what types of looks, personalities, and qualities that are ideal – but by trying to please everyone, you end up not pleasing any. The biggest quality you can give yourself is therefore simply to be the best version of yourself.

What’s the best life advice you’ve ever received?
From a random guy in a plane: ‘You are never too much in a hurry to embrace the opportunities which stumble upon your life’

What do you think about fashion? What does it mean to you?
It’s both an important tool and mirror since it is reflecting the social, cultural, and political movements happening in our time. But it’s also a way of expressing who you are or just who you are dreaming to be.

If you had to be head to toe in one designer brand for the rest of your life, which would it be?
Too hard to choose!

How would you describe your style?
Minimalistic and classic, often with one funny or colorful piece to spice it up and make it personal. Always in a lot of layers which is perfect for someone who’s always freezing like me.

Denim or leather?
Denim jeans for the win!!

Heels or flats?
I’m too practical for heels. You dance better through life in a pair of sneakers.

Vintage or contemporary fashion?
Vintage for sure. I love the feeling of treasure hunting while being both environmentally and often economically aware.

What is your guilty pleasure?
When loving croissants as much as I do, it is good I am not living in Paris

If you were an emoji, which would you be and why?
I would probably be the granny emoji. As much as I like to be on the run, I am a real sucker for Danish ‘Hygge’

When you’re not busy modeling, what are some of your favorite things to do?
When I am home from traveling, I really prioritize to get as much time with my boyfriend, friends, and family as possible since I never know how long it will be before I am leaving for another job. Furthermore, when time is there, I love making small hiking trips in nature and creative projects such as painting.

What are you working on now and what do you dream of happening in the future?
Right now, I am working full time as a model, but I feel a growing need to start educating myself and to create something on my own. I have been thinking about starting in an architectural school not too far out in the future, but I also want to explore a bit more of the world before settling too much.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years’ time?
I have no clue – that’s the beauty.
