Escada Looks to Hedy Lamarr For its AW19 collection
Escada recently presented it’s Fall / Winter 2019/20 at the Paris Fashion Week.
The 40-year-old German label’s new collection consists of glittering sequins and silhouettes of the ’30s, graphic prints, embroidered evening wear, and pleated skirts and jersey dresses adorned with mathematical equations and lace.
Niall Sloan Escada’s global design director was inspired by Austrian-American film actress and inventor Hedy Lamarr who was once revered as the ‘most beautiful woman in the world’. The collection celebrates Lamarr’s legacy
‘Hedy might be from another time, from the 1930s, but she’s a modern spirit with a millennial mindset. It’s almost like every time she got to a stage on the career ladder she went a stage further – that’s how I see young people today,’ Sloan told Vogue.
Born in the early 20th century, Lamarr is best known for her role in the iconic Ecstasy and developing a radio guidance system for allied torpedoes with composer George Antheil. To this day, principles of their work are incorporated into Wifi and Bluetooth something we use every day.
