Gucci x Dapper Dan Capsule Collection is here
Italian fashion house Gucci has just launched its Dapper Dan capsule collection.
The highly anticipated collaboration consists of cult pieces inspired by the style of Dapper Dan from the eighties, including shiny bomber jackets, baggy jeans and statement accessories such as necklaces and glasses. Alessandro Michele revived Dapper Dan’s jacket with oversized sleeves which was one of the best-known pieces of the 80s and early 90s.
The recognizable Gucci style of rich fabrics and materials with typical Gucci motifs like snakes and dragons is unmistakably present. There’s also a new, yellow Gucci logo, inspired by the original signboard above Dapper Dan’s store in Harlem.
According to Michele, ‘The Hip Hop Tailor of Harlem’ was the biggest source of inspiration for his Gucci Resort 2018 collection. Dapper Dan demonstrated how much high-fashion is influenced by the aesthetics of the street today.
The accompanying campaign which was lensed by Ari Marcopoulos features models sporting looks from the capsule collection, photographed in a typical eighties setting, in the streets of the Harlem district.
The Gucci x Dapper Dan collection is available now at gucci.com and at select brand flagship stores.
