Stuart Weitzman Steps Down as Creative Director
Stuart Weitzman is stepping down as creative director of his eponymous label after nearly 30 years at the helm.
The brand’s founder, current Creative Director and Executive Chairman will take on a new role as Chairman while Giovanni Morelli will take over his previous role. Morelli, a renowned accessories designer has been working in luxury industry for over 25 years and hails most recently from Loewe, where has was the Leather Goods Design Director since March 2015. He has also had stints with Prada, Burberry, Chloe and Marc Jacobs.
‘Women globally have embraced Stuart Weitzman’s beautiful shoes that offer both amazing design and incredible comfort. I look forward to expanding the brand’s language and its global reach while remaining respectful of the culture and key tenets that it was founded on, which in turn have inspired such strong customer loyalty,’ Morelli said of his appointment.
‘In Giovanni, we have found a Creative Director who will ensure that the unique DNA of the brand will be preserved while infusing hiscreative vision for a modern age,’ Weitzman said in a statement, ‘Giovanni is respected for his attention to detail, respect of quality and craftsmanship and for his modern sensibility that is always pushing new design boundaries.’
This will be Morelli’s first time around as creative director of a brand. He will succeed Weitzman effective May 5, 2017.
