Jonathan Saunders has been named chief creative officer of Diane von Furstenberg’s eponymous label.

The 38-year-old Scottish designer will take charge with immediate effect and report directly to Paolo Riva, chief executive officer of Diane von Furstenberg.

‘The spirit with which this brand was founded is incredibly relevant today. I am thrilled to be part of its next chapter,’ Saunders said. ‘Diane has a unique ability to deeply connect with women and I am excited to be working with Paolo on the future of the brand.’

‘Jonathan’s extraordinary passion for colors and prints, his effortless designs, and his desire to make women feel beautiful make him the perfect creative force to lead DVF into the future,’ Diane von Furstenberg said in a statement. ‘I could not have found a cooler, more intelligent designer and I cannot wait to watch him shine as our chief creative officer.’

Saunders, who closed his eponymous label earlier this year, was long regarded as the successor to Raf Simons at Dior. He previously worked with some of fashion’s biggest labels including Alexander McQueen, Pucci, Chloe and Paul Smith, alongside collaborations with major retailers including Target, Topshop and Debenhams.
