Photographed by famed photographers Mert Alas & Marcus Piggott the leggy supermodels appear topless and in lingerie for the racy spread of the 10 sexiest supermodels on social media titled “Privacy Settings”. Other models featured in the spread are Joan Smalls, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Anna Ewers, Bella Hadid, Barbara Palvin and Doutzen Kroes.
In the interview with the magazine each of the models discuss their relationship with social media and times they have been most uncomfortable during shoots. Teigen who shared her topless pic from the shoot with fans on Instagram, only to have it deleted by the photo-sharing platform told W, “The most uncomfortable I’ve ever been on set was having to model coats, so I am the most comfortable in my own skin, literally, just in my own skin.”
W’s Fashion Director Edward Enninful said he took the sexy approach as he wanted to examine how models are “captivating audiences in new ways” and “comment on the ideas of voyeurism, privacy and censorship vs. self-expression on social media.” “With social media as their platform for expression, models captivate audiences in new ways, their power to seduce –fans and brands alike — stronger than ever,” Enninful said. “As we conceptualized this portfolio for our Pop issue, we wanted to explore this theme, commenting on the ideas of voyeurism, privacy, and censorship versus self-expression on social media.”
Shooting in the nude is normal,” Emily Ratajkowski said. “I mean, I don’t know. I think you get used to it, and if you have a good team around you and everyone making you feel comfortable then that’s all that matters.” While for Huntington-Whiteley, “When you’re shooting nude, there’s always a sense of empowerment.”
