Valentino’s “Mexican” Beauties
Photographer Deborah Tuberville (whose “subversively elegant aesthetic vision” enthusiasted Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierrepaolo Piccioli, the brand’s creative directors) was made responsible for extracting beautiful pictures from a cast of models, in Pozo, Mexico. These pictures would build the adverts for Valentino Spring 2012 Collection.
The delicate and delightful clothes were shown by starring models: Bette Franke, Fei Fei Sun, Zuzanna Bijoch, Maud Franzen and male model Clement Chabernaud. Pierre Orlando was their make-up artist and their hair was braided by Mark Hampton.
Next to a stone, shadowy, wall, the girls stood grace and peacefully inside preciously enlightened dresses, which contrasted powerfully with the darkness of the set. Looking once, the four girls look like women from a couple centuries ago, serene and waiting for their lover. Looking twice, absolutely elegant and long necked figures jump to one’s sight, carrying key modernity items such as studded leather bags. Although they resembled statues, the models exhale the calm softness and the restrained beauty any classic lady in a painting should have.
When describing these collection, Valentino’s creative duo said it was “linked to Mexico as a state of mind”, as well as inspired by the work of photographer-actress Tina Modotti and artist Georgia O’Keeffe, stressing the campaign was intended to portray “a fantasy setting for a new poetic femininity.”
