Miranda Kerr is coocoo for coconut oil

Lovely Australian supermodel Miranda Kerr revealed her most precious beauty secret. Coconut oil sales are said to have skyrocketed after the 28-year-old beauty revealed she is an avid consumer and has used the product since her mid-teens.

Kerr was quoted in Australia’s Cosmopolitan magazine saying that coconut oil was the key to her clear skin, shiny hair and slim figure. The model-mom said she ingests a certain amount daily, either on salads, in her cooking or in her cups of green tea.

Nonetheless, nutritionist Keith Ayoob is skeptical about the benefits of the product. “I can’t say I’d want people consuming lots of coconut oil. You should use it sparingly.” said the nutrition director at the Children’s Evaluation and Rehabilitation Center at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine.

According to Ayoob, coconut oil is simply a saturated fat, with a high calorie count and few vitamins and minerals. Kerr’s reported four daily tablespoons (117 calories each) would mean she consumes 468 calories, in addition to the calories from the rest of her diet.

However, Kerr later lashed out at the magazine for misquoting and misrepresenting her use of the oil after experts warned people about consuming excessive amounts. “I never did an interview with Australian Cosmopolitan magazine and unfortunately they have misquoted and misrepresented comments posted on my blog.”

“When it comes to coconut oil, I personally find it beneficial and use approximately four teaspoons of coconut oil a day (in my salads and meals), not tablespoons,” reported Kerr to the Herald Sun.

“Everyone is different, but that is what works for me and I prefer it as a substitute to other oils more readily used in day-to-day food preparation and cooking. I suggest people consult with their health practitioner for what is right for them,” added the Victoria’s Secret model.
