Saint Laurent Reissues Charlotte Perriand Furniture Designs

French luxury fashion house Saint Laurent is reissuing unseen furniture pieces originally designed by legendary French architect and designer Charlotte Perriand.

The partnership is the latest example of the house’s ongoing commitment to heritage, that aims to bring important artifacts of design culture to a wider audience. It also honors Yves Saint Laurent’s admiration for Perriand’s work, which he collected throughout his life, and Pierre Berge’s support of important global retrospectives of her work.

Four rare designs will be presented during Salone del Mobile in Milan at the Padiglione Visconti from April 8 to 13 for an exhibition titled Saint Laurent – Charlotte Perriand.

Selected by Louis Vuitton creative director Anthony Vaccarello, the iconic pieces date from 1943 to 1967 and existed only as prototypes or sketches until now. They have been carefully reproduced and brought to life for the first time as a limited edition and made to order.

Three of the pieces were originally created by Perriand for her own homes around the globe (‘Bibliotheque Rio De Janeiro’ and ‘Fauteuil Visiteur Indochine’) and for a diplomat’s residence in Paris (‘Canape De La Residence De L’ambassadeur Du Japon’). The fourth piece ‘Table Mille-feuilles’ was known to date only from a small maquette on Perriand’s desk and has been produced in full scale for the first time.

As part of the collaboration between Saint Laurent and Charlotte Perriand, during Milan Design Week the Saint Laurent kiosk on Piazza San Babila will carry a book of Perriand’s photographs as well as a catalog of the new furniture collection. A selection of her photography will also be displayed at two Saint Laurent Rive Droite locations in Paris, from April 9 to May 4, on Rue de Babylone and from April 8 to May 7 on Rue Saint-Honore.
