Mugler appointments Miguel Castro Freitas as its new Creative Director

Miguel Castro Freitas Mugler Creative Director

L’Oreal Group-owned French fashion house Mugler has announced the appointment of Miguel Castro Freitas as its new Creative Director effective 1 April.

The Portuguese designer who succeeds Casey Cadwallader has a rich professional background having held designer roles at Sportmax, Dries Van Noten, Givenchy, Christian Dior Couture, Julie Verhoeven and Yves Saint Laurent.

‘Miguel lives and breathes the Mugler spirit. His deep understanding of Mugler’s DNA and his vast creativity and talent made him a natural choice,’ Mugler’s global brand president of fashion and fragrances Daniele Lahana-Aidenbaum said in a statement.

‘It is an honor to join the spectacular house of Mugler. As one of the 20th century’s great couturiers, Mr. Mugler reimagined the power and limits of fashion. Alongside the teams, I am thrilled to bring my own vision, story and emotion to this monumental heritage,’ Castro Freitas said on his appointment.

A womenswear design program graduate from Central Saint Martins in 2004, Castro Freitas worked on John Galliano’s team at Dior, later joined Yves Saint Laurent under Stefano Pilati, and collaborated with Alber Elbaz at Lanvin. He also held the position of design director at Christian Dior during Raf Simons’ tenure.

Since it’s acquisition by L’Oreal in 2019, Mugler has been actively reinventing its approach to fashion collections. The appointment of Castro Freitas reflects L’Oreal’s continued commitment to innovation and a fresh perspective on modern style.

Miguel Castro Freitas will unveil his debut collection for Mugler in September, during Paris Fashion Week Spring/Summer 26 season.
