Burberry appoints Joshua Schulman as Chief Executive Officer

British luxury brand Burberry has announced the appointment of Joshua Schulman as Chief Executive Officer.

The announcement comes after Burberry warned on profit and scrapped its dividend payment for this year which saw its shares fall by 17 percent. Schulman is Burberry’s fourth CEO in 10 years and replaces Jonathan Akeroyd who after two years stepped down and left the Company with immediate effect by mutual agreement with the Board.

A Los Angeles native who attended New York University and Parsons School of Design, Schulman has an impressive track record of driving transformative growth and value creation for more than 33 years. Prior to joining Burberry he served as the CEO of Michael Kors from 2021 to 2022 while before that he was the Brand President at Coach from 2017 to 2020.

From 2012 to 2017 he worked at the Neiman Marcus Group, where he held the position of President at Bergdorf Goodman while from 2007 to 2012, he served as the CEO of Jimmy Choo in London. He also served as Executive Vice President for Worldwide Merchandising and Sales at Yves Saint Laurent and as the Worldwide Director for Women’s Ready-to-Wear at Gucci.

Schulman will join Burberry on 17 July 2024 and will be based at the Company’s headquarters in London. He will lead the Executive Committee and report to Burberry Chair Gerry Murphy and the Board of Directors.
