Lanvin Appoints Peter Copping Artistic Director
French couture house Lanvin has announced the appointment of Peter Copping as its new artistic director.
He succeeds Loewe alumni Bruno Sialelli, who joined the House in 2019 and exited in April 2023 after four years at the helm. He will take the role as the creative lead for womenswear and menswear collections, starting from September 2024.
‘With 135 years of heritage, Lanvin boasts an exceptionally rich history and is one of the most celebrated names in fashion worldwide. As Lanvin Group’s flagship brand, Lanvin is an integral part of our family. With the nomination of Peter Copping, we look forward to the Maison’s continued transformation and growth,’ Zhen Huang, Chairman of Lanvin Group said in a statement.
‘Lanvin Group is delighted to welcome Peter Copping to Lanvin. I am certain that Peter’s outstanding talent and capacity to reinterpret the codes of the Maison with curiosity and innovation make him the ideal candidate to drive success for Lanvin. This new chapter for the house fits perfectly with our commitment to meeting the evolving needs and desires of our clients,’ Eric Chan, CEO of Lanvin Group added.
‘Jeanne Lanvin was a visionary of her time whose interests and passions extended far beyond fashion, as do my own. I am extremely honored to have been chosen as Artistic Director of Lanvin and to be able, along with the atelier and teams, to write the next chapter for this iconic House,’ Copping said on his appointment.
Copping has a wealth of experience in the fashion industry spanning across some of the most prestigious fashion houses. A British national and graduate of Central Saint Martins and the Royal College of Art in London, he began his career at Sonia Rykiel. He then spent over a decade at Louis Vuitton, working alongside renowned designer Marc Jacobs as the head of the womenswear division.
Thereafter he was named Creative Director of Nina Ricci in Paris and subsequently, Oscar de la Renta in New York. At Oscar de la Renta, Copping had the honor of being designated as the successor to Mr. de la Renta himself, who had previously worked as a designer at Lanvin under Antonio Castillo.
Most recently, Copping served as the Head of Couture at Balenciaga, where he directed the ateliers responsible for the reintroduction of the iconic couture collection.
Copping’s appointment marks a significant moment for Lanvin, which has been the oldest continually operating couture house in France since its founding by Jeanne Lanvin in 1889. It represents a significant addition to the brand’s creative direction, and aims to build upon its transformation into a contemporary culture through his technical expertise of a modern couturier.
