Rochas appoints Alessandro Vigilante as Creative Director
French luxury fashion house Rochas has announced the appointment of Alessandro Vigilante as its Creative Director of Ready-To-Wear.
The Italian designer succeeds Charles de Vilmorin, who left the label in April of this year after a two-year tenure. Born in Puglia, Vigilante initially pursued a career as a contemporary dancer which he quit at the age of 23 to attend fashion school. He graduted with honors from IED Moda Lab in Milan and has worked for fashion brands such as The Attico, Dolce & Gabbana, Philosophy di Lorenzo Serafini and Gucci under Alessandro Michele.
‘I am delighted to welcome Alessandro as Creative Director of Ready-To-Wear. His work is defined by elegance, modern femininity and constant research into women’s bodily expression. Through his lens, he will write a new chapter for this Maison built on boldness, femininity and sophistication,’ Philippe Benacin, CEO of Interparfums S.A. said in a statement.
‘I am honored and grateful to be joining the Maison Rochas and for the opportunity to build on the rich and profound heritage of the house. Rochas represents a dedication to French sophistication and a celebration of womanhood that I find incredibly inspiring. I am looking forward to conveying my vision,’ Vigilante said of his appointment.
Founded in 1925 by Marcel Rochas, the storied Parisian house began as a fashion house and expanded into perfumery in the 50s under Helene Rochas’ direction. Over the years, it has had several owners (Wella group, Procter & Gamble, Interparfums S.A.) and creative directors (Peter O’Brien, Olivier Theyskens, Marco Zanini, and Alessandro dell’Acqua).
Vigilante will unveil his inaugural collection for Rochas during the Fall 2024 season of Paris Fashion Week in February.
