Sean McGirr is Alexander McQueen’s new creative director
French luxury group Kering has tapped Sean McGirr as Creative Director of British luxury house British luxury fashion house Alexander McQueen.
McGirr succeeds Sarah Burton who announced her departure earlier last month after nearly three decades. She was appointed Head of Design for womenswear at Alexander McQueen in 2000, and became Creative Director of the entire brand in May 2010, having worked alongside McQueen for more than 14 years. Burton’s final show for the house was held at the Paris Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2024 on Saturday Sep 30th.

McGirr began his career in the fashion industry as a stylist at Burberry and Vogue Hommes Japan. The Irish national who hails from Dublin, has a Master of Arts in Fashion from Central Saint Martins in London. From 2014 – 2018 he worked under Christophe Lemaire at Uniqlo Tokyo and Paris on the men’s collections. In 2018 he joined Dries Van Noten in Antwerp as its Women’s Designer. He joined JW Anderson in 2020 as head of menswear and later added womenswear to his responsibilities, eventually becoming Head of Ready-to-Wear.
