H&M unveils unique capsule in collaboration with Mugler
Swedish fashion giant H&M has teamed up with French fashion brand Mugler for its next designer collaboration.
The much-anticipated collection by Mugler’s creative director Casey Cadwallader includes both womenswear, menswear, and accessories and will give fashion lovers a chance to own a piece of the Mugler’s legendary history and become a part of its dynamic present.
Discussions for the collaboration between both brands’ began before legendary French fashion designer Thierry Mugler passed away last January. For the capsule, Cadwallader who joined the house in 2018, selected a series of very special, limited-edition archive remakes alongside contemporary designs. A fluid transformational cross-gender styling is central to every piece in the collection and pays tribute to the founder.
‘It is truly an honor to collaborate with H&M. The collection is a celebration of everything that defines Mugler as a house and each piece is authentic Mugler, from the bodysuits, which have become a signature of ours, to the sharp tailoring and worked denims. It is a showcase of our icons,’ said Casey Cadwallader, Creative Director at Mugler.
‘We are proud to celebrate the legacy of Manfred Thierry Mugler with this collection. We were all honored to get to know Manfred, and it feels very special that he was involved at the initial stages together with Casey and the house of Mugler. Casey has done such an incredible job at paying homage to history, and to the archive, while making the collection totally contemporary. Under him, Mugler has become one of the most innovative and exciting houses on today’s fashion landscape,’ said Ann-Sofie Johansson, Creative advisor at H&M
In celebration of Mugler’s long association with music, performance, theatricality and subculture, Mugler and H&M have also released a music video, which stars Amaarae, Shygirl, Eartheater and Arca to create an exclusive campaign anthem – a reimagined version of Stardust’s 1998 dance hit ‘Music Sounds Better With You’. The star-studded music video, which features a brilliant cast of icons, artists and friends of the brand, was directed by Torso and styled by Haley Wollens.
H&M is known for its sell-out designer collaborations and for the past two decades, has offered its customers the opportunity to own high-end designer pieces at a fraction of the usual price. Previous successful collaborations have been with the likes of Karl Lagerfeld, Kenzo, Simone Rocha, Versace, Giambattista Vali, Erdem, Isabel Marant, Balmain and Moschino.
The H&M Mugler collection will be available globally at selected H&M stores and online at hm.com on 11 May 2023.
