Raf Simons is closing his Namesake Label
Belgian fashion designer Raf Simons announced on Monday that is closing his eponymous fashion brand after 27 years.
‘The Spring/Summer 2023 collection is the conclusion of an extraordinary 27-year journey and the final season of the Raf Simons fashion brand. I lack the words to share how proud I am of all that we have achieved. I am grateful for the incredible support from my team, from my collaborators, from the press and buyers, from my friends and family, and from our devoted fans and loyal followers. Thank you all, for believing in our vision and for believing in me,’ Simons said in a statement on Instagram to his 1.1 million followers.
The reason behind why Simons’ decided to close his brand is unclear and his announcement came as a shock for many in the fashion world with several designers and celebrities paying tribute to him and wishing him well. He launched the label in 1995 with menswear and later in 2020 extended its offering to womenswear. An intern of Walter Van Beirendonck, Simons also held roles at Jil Sander, Dior and Calvin Klein before becoming co-creative director of the Italian design house Prada.
