Jean Paul Gaultier has teamed up with Real Madrid superstar Karim Benzema for a reissue of a pair of the house’s iconic 56-6106 glasses.
Titled ‘Jean Paul Gaultier x Karim Benzema’ the round sunglasses were popularized by rapper Tupac in the 1990s and were worn by him throughout his career.
Priced at 390 Euros, the reissue is limited to 500 units per colorway and comes in three colors: a gold pair, complete with bottle green lenses; a silver pair, complete with violet lenses; and an all-black pair.
Each French-made unisex variant features an engraved KB9 motif and unique serial number, idiosyncratic spring detail on the temples and anti-glare lenses. They all come packaged in a logo-embossed black leather case that contains an integrated mirror. Benzema selected the models from the brand’s archives and also stars in a video campaign produced by Original Kids.
With the collection Gaultier pays tribute to a new generation of virtuosos who express themselves in a daring way, who do not hesitate to break from convention to achieve their goals additionally shaking up the status quo.
Unfortunately, the JPG x KB sunglasses have already sold out on the official Jean Paul Gaultier website. Once can only hope that they will be back soon!
