Jean Paul Gaultier and Lotta Volkova collaborate on Ready-To-Wear Capsule
Legendary French fashion designer Jean Paul Gaultier and stylist Lotta Volkova have teamed up for a ready-to-wear collection.
Titled ‘Lotta Volkova x Jean Paul Gaultier’ the collection is a celebration of the house’s heritage and comprises of corseted lingerie, conical breasts, de-structured tailoring, trompe-l’oeil prints, kinky babydoll dresses and ultra-flowy knitwear.
Known as the in-house stylist for Balenciaga, Vetements, and the creative behind the viral Miu Miu miniskirt styling, Volkova received access to the fashion house’s extensive archives to reimagine signature and couture pieces for a modern audience. Emblematic Jean Paul Gaultier pieces, ready-to-wear and couture silhouettes have been reinterpreted with her signature subculture-blending aesthetic. The iconic 1984 velvet cone midi dress has been abbreviated into a mini dress and top, while the tennis striped suit is deconstructed with harness inserts, reminiscent of SM and fetishism.
‘Discovering Jean Paul Gaultier and Antoine de Caunes presenting their TV show Eurotrash was one of the first memories of fashion for me. What struck me was extreme eccentricity, uncompromising vision, wit, and never-ending festive celebration of fashion, culture, music and underground cultures that all formed an extraordinary world of Jean Paul Gaultier. It was an incredible honor to be able to discover the archives, obsess and fetishize – reimagine the iconic Jean Paul Gaultier collections in the context of 2022 reintroducing them into a contemporary wardrobe. My purpose was to capture the quintessence of Jean Paul Gaultier and make it available to the modern fashion audience,’ Volkova said in a statement.
The Lotta Volkova x Jean Paul Gaultier is available now on the Jean Paul Gaultier website and at select boutiques. Check out the lookbook lensed by Johnny Dufort here.
