Burberry pledges to be climate positive by 2040
Iconic British fashion house Burberry has pledged to become climate positive by 2040.
Making it the first luxury brand to become Climate Positive by going further than its current 2040 net-zero target, the new climate ambition builds on its heritage of exploration and long-standing environmental and social programmes.
The company aims to set a new industry standard by cutting emissions across its extended supply chain by 46 per cent by 2030. It will support wider climate change efforts beyond its value chain by investing in key initiatives and programmes that protect and restore our natural ecosystems, funding climate resilience projects to help vulnerable communities adapt to the changing world and questioning what it will take to transform the fashion industry through partnerships and policies.

Drawing on this heritage of exploration and driven by our creative spirit, today, we are setting a bold new ambition: to become climate positive by 2040. By strengthening our commitment to sustainability, we are going further in helping protect our planet for generations to come,’ said Marco Gobbetti, Chief Executive Officer at Burberry in a press release.

I am so proud that as a company we are making these inspiring steps to protect our beautiful planet and the future for our next generations,’ chief creative officer, Riccardo Tisci explained.
In addition Burberry will advocate for changemakers and support programmes transforming the fashion industry, in partnership with NGOs, peers and policymakers and support others in improving their own carbon journeys. It will support Fashion Avengers, a coalition of global fashion organisations that have come together to inspire action towards achieving the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals.
