Angela Missoni is stepping down as Creative Director after 24 years
Italian fashion label Missoni has announced that creative director and daughter of brand founders Rosita and late Ottavio, Angela Missoni will be stepping down from her role after 24 years.
The announcement comes after Margherita Missoni stepped down from her role as creative director of M Missoni in March. Angela Missoni, 62, has had great success as a creative director honoring her parents’ legacy will continue to hold her role as president.
According to official information, the changes in the fashion house are due to reorganization by Italian fund FSI brought on by the Covid-19 crisis. Last year, the label suffered a 33% loss when sales reached 110 million euros. Missoni’s chief executive officer Livio Proli who came from Giorgio Armani said that the reorganization is part of a recovery plan started in 2018 with the aim of repositioning itself and expanding its audience through an extended range of products and prices and a renewed style. The company is implementing an internal reorganization plan in the field of creation and communication, to improve the natural synergies and qualitative advantages of the design of the collections.
‘Angela is showing sensibility and courage as well as foresight with this decision, which will contribute to kick-start the third cycle of the company with a new injection of energy and creative strength. She will accompany the evolution of the brand, but she realised she would have conditioned the company in staying on as creative director,’ Proli told WWD.
Missoni will be replaced ad interim by Alberto Caliri, who has been her right hand for the past 12 years. His first collection for the brand will be for the spring 2022 season and will be shown this fall in september. The collection places emphasis on women’s clothing, signature line and men’s silhouettes.
