Vilebrequin celebrates its 50th Anniversary with limited edition collection
Vilebrequin is celebrating its 50th anniversary.
To mark the occasion, the French swimwear brand has unveiled a limited-edition collector’s capsule with patterns from its archives. Consisting of an assortment of 50 prints with each one represents a different year, starting with 1971, the year Vilebrequin was founded.
The collection features iconic swim trunks but also t-shirts, polo shirts, shirts and accessories for men, while for women there are low-cut trikinis, high-cut one-pieces, 3D floral bikinis, Long dresses with a bohemian spirit, light shirts and multicolored shorts. Altogether, the capsule pays homage to the psychedelic charm of the seventies through the flashy graphics of the 80s and sportswear minimalism.
Vilebrequin was created by Fred Prysquel, a journalist and photographer, in 1971 after meeting (and wanting to impress) his future wife Yvette in Saint-Tropez, France. While it started as a men’s swimwear brand, it now makes women’s and children’s swimwear, ready-to-wear apparel, and accessories.
‘We have unfolded the history of Vilebrequin from its creation to today, the exercise consisted of diving back into the archives to recreate the essentials,’ said Richard Rene, artistic director of the house.
The Vilebrequin 50th Anniversary collection will be available in its entirety in June 2021 and in selected stores.
