Adidas and Zalando launch sustainable sneaker collection
German footwear giant Adidas and European e-commerce company Zalando have teamed up to release a collection of sneakers based on sustainable principles.
Titled ‘Clean Classics’ the collection includes models of iconic sneakers: the Superstar, Stan Smith, Continental 80, Top Ten, SC Premiere, Supercourt, and Superstar Bold. All of the models have been given a new touch and redesigned to reduce the brand’s impact on the environment.
The uppers of the sneakers are made from 70% recycled materials, colorful laces made of paper, while the soles are made from renewable and reclaimed rubber (90% natural rubber and 10% recycled rubber). The collection pays homage to the brand’s heritage of creating white sports shoes, with a new pledge of responsibility that shows Adidas’ commitment to ending plastic waste. By re-thinking pattern cutting it not only reduces unnecessary waste but also creates distinctive, new cuts and details.
‘The truth is that these shoes alone will not save the planet, however, Clean Classics remains a commitment to continuous innovation in the field of sustainability,’ Adidas said in a statement.
Priced between 85 USD and 145 USD, the Adidas Clean Classics collection is available in a sustainable and vegan version on the websites of Zalando and Adidas.
