Cover Story: Beatrice Brusco – An unfiltered Expression of Verity
Authentic. That’s the word that springs to mind when talking to Beatrice Brusco. ‘I personally have always been very genuine and myself, never pretended to be something I am not’ says the model, 21.
Brusco grew up in Canzo, a commune of the Italian province of Como which she describes as “strategically perfect to work but still to enjoy peace and nature,” and with good reason. ‘It’s very small but still beautiful and full of places to go trekking or walking. You can find a cute little lake, beautiful paths in the mountain with amazing top views (you can even see Milan sometime when you rock the top of our highest mountain),’ she tells me.
Her foray into Fashion was not intentional as she always wanted to be a volcanologist and lawyer. However, on the advice of some scouters who had seen her pics on Facebook, she participated in the Elite Model Look contest in Milan back in 2013 and the rest as they say is history.
Fast forward to 7 short years and Beatrice has already proved to be an achiever and more recently walked a few Fashion Shows back to back during the 2019/2020 season. ‘I actually walked for 2 big brands (Dolce and Gabbana and Philipp Plein) because I recently changed my mother agency and we were working on changing my look and giving a new fresh look for the future,’ she says. ‘I didn’t have to go to a casting, they already know me because I worked a lot with them already.’
And, just for context, Beatrice never had preconceived notions about what the Fashion world was like. ‘At the beginning, I was super shocked about literally everything especially because I came from a small place, so my reality is millions of kilometers away from the fashion world,’ she points out.
‘Beatrice’s beauty is evident to everyone but what surprises you most about her is her immense sweetness. Despite the model’s successes, she remained the typical girl next door, simple sweet and polite,’ says Elena Ghesini at Women Management Milan. ‘All our clients love her and want to continue working with her! Every booker would be proud to have a model like her!.’
Beatrice’s emphasis on not just looking good but feeling good extends to all aspects of her life. Her mantra for wellness includes an upbeat attitude, staying strong, focused, and happy no matter what. ‘When you find inner balance, surround yourself with people you love and trust, you love your job, live a happy life knowing bad things happen but still decide to stay positive, be a nice person, growing and learning every day. This is success for me.’
Strong and confident, Beatrice has found true purpose and passion in standing up for others and she’s not afraid to speak up about it. Even for a star of her magnitude, this fearless model still relishes pushing the envelope and being an unstoppable force for good. ‘I’m always very talkative and I usually speak about important issues like BLM, violence against women, LGBTQ+ community…if I have the power to speak or help even in my little way, with my platform, I’m happy and glad to do it. It’s important yes, for the image, but we should start to use our “privileges” to help others in need or to denounce injustice,’ she says earnestly.
You could say Beatrice, is busier than ever these days. She’s juggling a full-time model and studying Law. ‘Yes, I’m still studying, and I have to admit it’s very difficult to be a full-time model and studying Law, with hundreds and hundreds of pages to study for each exam,’ she tells me. ‘But it’s even more satisfying when you pass it. Hard work pays off.’
She may be balancing modeling and studying law right now, but that’s not the only exciting thing going on in her life. On top of all that, she has ambitions of pursuing acting full time if the right occasion would knock at her door. ‘It depends on what the future will bring me,’ she says when I ask if she plans on pursuing a career in Law full time.
Beatrice’s venture into acting was a smart one (although a small part in American TV Series Gotham) as well as personally fulfilling in its relatability. ‘I enjoyed it so much and all the people and also the main characters were so nice to me. It was a long day, shooting a very small part’ she says. ‘I’ve learned that sometimes it takes lots of days to shoot one minute on the screen.’ And if opportunity ensues, she won’t hesitate to dive in. ‘I would love to have more experiences like this. Modeling is a little bit of acting also, so I think I would appreciate that world also,’ she adds.
Unorthodox and free-spirited, Beatrice describes her use of social media as pragmatic. ‘I have to admit I was obsessed till 2 years ago, especially when the social models like Gigi, Bella, or Kendall started to model because clients started to pay attention to your profile and the number of followers,’ she says. ‘Now, I personally think it’s crazy because I’m sure that the number of followers doesn’t define you or your skills. So, I decided to not care about social media too much, I still enjoy them but not obsessed AT ALL. Don’t care how many followers I have or like or whatever, now I post my jobs and everything I like.
Beatrice has pretty much always been the picture of health and wellness. Her beauty/health regimen is simple and one that keeps her centered. Despite her insanely hectic and demanding life, she makes time for self-care. What is the secret I ask? ‘Thanks to my mom and dad for the genes,’ she says. ‘I eat good, exercise, and do yoga. In one world? Balance.’
When it comes to body positivity Beatrice has strong opinions and feelings about. After all, working in an industry makes you feel the pressure to have the perfect body. ‘I have to admit that when I was younger I was told to be fat, that I had to lose weight and stuff. I didn’t do anything, I just grew up and my body and metabolism changed, I lost that cute baby fat and became a woman,’ she says. ‘I’m positive now because I don’t listen to anybody who disrespects us by calling us fat or being rude FOR NO REASON. Sometimes it happens that you’re not at your 100%, but it doesn’t mean that you’re not worthy or ugly or whatever. And I have to say that the perfect body doesn’t exist, it’s perfect only if YOU are happy in it.’
Beatrice is very decisive about her career and to do things on her own terms. ‘If modeling or acting won’t bring me anywhere I have prepared a great plan B. But don’t get me wrong, it’s not simply a plan B, I’m very attracted to peruse justice and fight for rights, so when it will be time I will choose my path.’
When she’s not busy modeling or studying law, Beatrice channels her energy into keeping fit and having “me time”. ‘I love to chill, listen to music, walking in the woods, hanging out with my friends, staying with my family,’ Beatrice says. ‘Yoga makes me feel relaxed and more self-conscious.’ The self-effacing model has figured out the formula for staying energized, focused, and happy.
Currently fueled by her passions, Beatrice is psyched for the future describing a scenario that makes her feel absolute bliss: ‘Being a mother, having a lovely and caring husband and still being a powerful businesswoman.’ She’s is excited about what lies ahead. ‘I truly hope for my career to get higher and higher, step by step, as it’s been in the past years.’
Bright, Bold, and Beautiful, Beatrice has never looked better or felt stronger and her latest career moves show that she’s charging full steam ahead. She knows what she wants, and she isn’t afraid to go after it. With her career expanding in new directions, she is on a roll and she’s just getting started. We have a pretty big crush on Beatrice right now-and it’s hard not to.
