Jil Sander revives her +J Collection with Uniqlo after 11 years
Jil Sander is returning to Uniqlo this fall.
Eleven years after her first successful collaboration with the Japan-based retailer, the celebrated German designer and master of minimalism will release a new collection for men and women under +J.
Inspired by an enlightened sense of restraint, Sander combined her creative vision with the manufacturing capabilities of Uniqlo. ‘Uniqlo has a lot of experience and great knowledge of manufacturing. The production possibilities are endless and inspiring. This includes the well-oiled logistics, the infusion with Japanese culture and true mastership of detail,’ said Sander in an Interview with Uniqlo.
Describing how the new collection came about Sander added, ‘I do not work with visions or muses, neither with a mood board only. My creativity relies on the fitting and experimenting with fabrics. I exclude and at the same time push in certain directions. As I said, my eyes are fine-tuned to the emerging shape.’
So far Uniqlo & Sander have not revealed much information about the collection except that it will be a global, modern uniform with an emphasis on minimalism and comfort. The Uniqlo website features a Hybrid Down Jacket in black with hidden zipper and buttons, accentuated by the big collar and grosgrain pocket trim and a fine Cotton Oversized Regular Collar Shirt highlighted by subtle details like a hidden button placket, matching tailored body panels, gusseted chest pocket, and +J logo embroidery on the left hem.
Sander first released the +J collection with Uniqlo in 2009 comprising of 40 pieces for men and a hundred for women, including jackets, knitwear, T-shirts and accessories. The capsule which revolved around the concept ‘Open the Future,’ started with the mission of improving the quality of life with ease of wearing, affordability and quality items. It was well received to much fanfare so much so that Uniqlo relaunched key pieces in 2014.
The new +J collection is expected to hit Uniqlo stores and online stores in October 2020.
