H&M to provide Funds and Protective Equipment to help fight Coronavirus
H&M is joining the fight against Coronavirus. The Swedish giant announced that its non-profit Foundation had donated USD 500,000 to the COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund set up by the World Health Organization (WHO) to prevent, detect, and respond to the pandemic. The donation made by the H&M Foundation will support WHO’s immediate global efforts to track and understand the spread of the virus, to ensure patients get the care they need, frontline workers get essential supplies and information, and to accelerate efforts to develop vaccines, tests, and treatments.
‘The growing COVID-19 pandemic affects us all and the World Health Organization is doing an extremely important job of leading and managing this global effort. We hope that more organizations and individuals want to join and help, as donations to the COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund are essential to meet funding needs in this fast-moving situation,’ said Karl-Johan Persson, board member of H&M Foundation.
H&M also announced it will use its supply chain capacity in order to start producing protective equipment that will be provided to hospitals and health care workers in affected countries and communities around the world so as to help tackle the spread of the infectious disease. ‘The coronavirus is dramatically affecting each and every one of us and H&M Group is, like many other organizations, trying our best to help in this extraordinary situation,’ said Anna Gedda, Head of Sustainability H&M Group. ‘We see this is a first step in our efforts to support in any way we can. We are all in this together and have to approach this as collectively as possible.’
H&M will also let global aid organizations, such as the Red Cross, utilize the H&M social media channels, to spread messages around health and safety and how to help tackle the widespread effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. ‘The current situation is affecting each and every one of us, and like many other organizations, we are doing our best to help. Opening up our social media channels and letting aid organizations utilize our reach is one way we can contribute. We are currently in discussions with other organizations and are also looking into the possibility of sharing other H&M channels’, said Sara Spannar, Head of Marketing and Communication at H&M.
