Model Of The Week: Karis Dawson
Each week, we take the time to highlight one of our favorite emerging models. Previously, we profiled Danish beauty Sabine Glud and this week we’re turning our attention to Karis Dawson.
Definitely one to keep an eye on, the effortlessly cool model isn’t entirely new to the modeling world, but she’s definitely someone on the rise. She has been modeling since she was 13 and made her big break for Vionnet. We expect to see her on a ton of runways soon.
We caught up with Karis to talk about her career so far, her passion for modeling and her plans for the future.

Have you always wanted to be a model? If not, what did you want to be growing up?
Like most kids, I went through different phases of things I wanted to be starting with a veterinarian, then after watching Legally Blonde-a lawyer, and then a scientist…but when I was about eleven I knew I wanted to be a model and from then on I measured my height every day.
How were you scouted?
My mum’s friend, Karen Delaney-Wolverton, is a former model (now co-owner of LUSH) and she believed in me from the beginning. She made the introduction to my now Mother Agent, Liz Bell of Lizbell Models and I met with Liz and she signed me when I was thirteen.
How would you describe yourself as a model in three words?
Creative, natural and hardworking
Your first modeling job?
I did a lot of local work (editorials, creatives, fashion shows) to develop my skills and get experience while I was still taking ballet and in high school but my first job as a full-time model was the Vionnet show in Paris.
What is your favorite or most exciting aspect about being a model?
Traveling and really getting to know people from all over the world. I can’t tell you how much I’ve learned and grown as a person by meeting (especially) models and getting to know their cultures and different perspectives on life. This has been such a blessing to be able to experience at a young age.
Is there anyone that you admire as a role model and why?
I admire Julia Roberts because she is a powerful woman with a strong presence but she is also feminine and fidgety and a bit goofy. I kind of relate to that.
What is your dream shoot/campaign?
Chanel campaign.
Biggest lesson that modeling has taught you?
Well, there are so many lessons about confidence, self-care, and business that it’s hard to choose just one but I think one of the most important is to be YOU and to look out for yourself and remember that self-care comes first.
What’s the best life advice you’ve ever received?
ALWAYS be prepared. No matter how beautiful you are, mastering your craft and being professional is what people will notice and remember.
How do you stay in shape?
I struggle with hypermobility so I have to be careful and always work on core strength and avoid things like running as it’s too unstable. The things I like to do are the best are NOT recommended for people with hypermobility…but I do them anyway – Yoga, Ballet, and Spin Class
What do you think about fashion? What does it mean to you?
I think it’s a culture. It gives people the ability to be themselves powerfully and authentically.
If you had to be head to toe in one designer brand for the rest of your life, which would it be?
Dior
How would you describe your style?
Minimalistic and chic
Denim or leather?
Denim
Heels or flats?
Sneakers
Vintage or contemporary fashion?
A little bit of both. Whatever my mood fancies that day.
What is your guilty pleasure?
Wine
What’s been your most indulgent purchase since you became a model?
I don’t know…I want to save my money most of the time!
If you were an emoji, which would you be and why?
An elf or a fairy because I love metaphysical stuff and I’ve been in love with the idea of fairies since I was little…but everyone called me Legolas (Lord of the Rings) for a time in high school.
When you’re not busy modeling, what are some of your favorite things to do?
Downhill skiing, hiking, swimming in the ocean, dancing, painting, writing and spending time with my friends, boyfriend, and family.
What are you working on now and what do you dream of happening in the future?
I’m currently working on building my career and honestly, I dream of doing a Prada campaign, walking in a VS show and being on the cover of Vogue. I think I just want to be the best I can be in my job and be able to inspire others.
Where do you see yourself in 10 years’ time?
I will go where life takes me…I’d like to be able to have my voice heard for causes I believe in and on a practical level, I’d like to start investing in real estate.
