Barbie to receive CFDA award
Barbie, will be given a major award, at this year’s CFDA Fashion Awards.
The most famous doll in the world will receive the Board of Directors’ Tribute which marks the first time in the history of the CFDA Fashion Awards a lifeless object was awarded.
Mattel, the company that makes Barbie has worked with more than 75 designers and models over the years. In 1985, Barbie was dressed by Oscar de la Renta while in 1990, fashion designer Bob Mackie, decorated her with gold sequins. Barbie has also worn styles by Jeremy Scott for Moschino, Anna Sui, Zac Poznan, Diane von Furstenberg and Vera Wang. In the 60 years of her being around, she has taken on quite a few roles of firefighter, doctor, and even a McDonald’s cashier.
‘Barbie has had such wide influence on American fashion and culture,’ said Steven Kolb, President and CEO of the CFDA. ‘Her story personally resonates with so many CFDA members that the Board of Directors decided to honor her with the special tribute.’

The 2019 CFDA Fashion Awards will take place on June 3rd at the Brooklyn Museum.
