Victoria Beckham to stop use of exotic skins
Victoria Beckham is dropping the use of exotic skins from autumn/winter 2019. The announcement comes just a few days before the brand’s show on February 17, 2019, during London Fashion Week.
‘As a business, we have been looking to action the use of more ethically sourced products that have less environmental impact for some time,’ a Victoria Beckham brand spokesperson told WWD. ‘We are happy to confirm that we will cease using exotic skins in all future collections as of our main autumn/winter 2019 ready-to-wear presentation. This decision reflects the wishes of not only the brand but also that of our customers.’
Animal rights organization PETA is very pleased with the decision to ban exotic skins. ‘Victoria Beckham’s decision to ban exotic skins will save countless remarkable animals immensely, and PETA calls on other premium brands to follow her friendly example,’ said PETA director Elisa Allen in response to the news.
Victoria Beckham is the latest brand after Chanel, Coach, Burberry, Calvin Klein, Stella McCartney, Diane von Furstenberg, Versace and Michael Kors who have joined the fur-free movement and have committed to promoting sustainable fashion. Incidentally, she maintains a strict no-fur policy across her brand’s collections.
