H & M launches collection with Dutch designer duo made from sale items
H & M has collaborated with sustainable Dutch design duo Alexander van Slobbe and Francisco van Benthum of the brand Hacked By_ for a collection from clothes that are not sold during a sale.
The sustainable collection consists entirely of garments made from old items that one normally finds in the sale rack of the Swedish fashion chain. This is the first time H & M has made such a collection (made of old garments), and also the first time a collection has been made in the Netherlands.
For years H & M has been taking important steps towards sustainability and with the new collection, it wants to give a signal that circularity and giving a second life to garments play a major role in making the fashion industry more sustainable for current and future generations. ‘Instead of endlessly discussing the need for a new system, HACKED by_ chooses to actually bring about the change. By making fashion, but in a different way,’ the label said in a press release.
The production of the collection will take place in-house at CSR studio I-did in Utrecht. The collection will become available exclusively at the H & M flagship store in Amsterdam from Thursday 14 February.
