Virgil Abloh and Converse Collaborate on Limited Edition Sneaker
Converse and newly appointed men’s creative director of Louis Vuitton Virgil Abloh has launched a customized version of Converse’s best selling model, the Converse Chuck Taylor. The unisex shoe is reimagined version of the Chuck 70, an existing model and is a tribute to the classic sneaker from the seventies.
The shoe is the latest addition to The Ten collaboration between Abloh and NikeInc. Nine of the ten sneakers were launched in November 2017 and were sold out within a few hours. On the sneakers are Off-Whites recognizable uppercase letters, with texts like ‘left,’ ‘right,’ ‘vulcanized’ and ‘shoelace.’ Abloh applied his idea of ‘Ghosting’ to the Chuck 70, which employs a translucent upper to expose the details of the silhouette’s original 1970’s design.
‘What we’re talking about here is larger than sneakers, it’s larger than design culture. It’s nothing short of state-of-the-art design. These 10 shoes have broken barriers in performance and style. To me, they are on the same level as a sculpture of David or the Mona Lisa. You can debate it all you want, but they mean something. And that’s what’s important,’ Abloh said of the collaboration with the American sportswear giant.
Priced at 130 euros, the Converse x Virgil Abloh Chuck 70 comes with three pairs of extra shoelaces. It will launch exclusively via Converse.com and Off-White, and fans can sign up for the newsletter to be notified of when the shoe will be available for purchase.
