Naomi Campbell to receive 2018 CFDA Fashion Icon Award
Naomi Campbell will receive the Fashion Icon award at the 2018 CFDA Fashion Awards in Partnership with Swarovski.
The 47-year-old needs no introduction and is an indispensable part of the fashion world and an undisputed icon. She has graced more than 500 magazine covers and, as one of the five original supermodels, starred in George Michael’s Freedom! ’90 video. She has worked with the world’s best photographers from Steven Meisel to Herb Ritts and Peter Lindbergh.
Over the years Campbell has built up a steady resume in addition to modeling and recently joined British Vogue as a contributing editor. She also had starring roles in American TV series like Empire and Star.
‘It is truly an honor to be recognized by the CFDA with this year’s Fashion Icon award,’ Campbell said in a statement.‘Being from London, my personal style has always been tremendously influenced by both the dynamic, ever-changing nature of street culture and the music scene. I grew up in this industry and I’m forever grateful to the iconic American fashion designers that have supported me and celebrated me throughout my career.’
‘From enfant prodige to Goddess of Fashion,’ CFDA Chairwoman Diane von Furstenberg said, ‘Naomi represents beauty, activism and joie de vivre.’
Campbell joins past recipients of the award Rihanna, Johnny Depp, Pharrell Williams, Beyonce and Franca Sozzani (who received the posthumous award in 2017). The 2018 CFDA Fashion Awards ceremony will take place on 4 June 2018.
