Gisele Bundchen covers Vogue Paris August 2017
Gisele Bundchen is cover star of the new August 2017 issue of Vogue Paris.
Photographed by Inez & Vinoodh, the 36-year-old supermodel adorns the cover sporting a realistic-looking cruelty-free faux fur by Nili Lotan and holding a baby kangaroo. In other pictures she can be seen in other animal-friendly outfits with a rabbit or a fox at her side. Gisele was styled by Emmanuelle Alt while hair and makeup was by Malcolm Edwards and Wendy Rowe respectively.
The choice of Gisele as a cover model is by no means a coincidence. The Topmodel is an animal rights advocate and in 2016 participated in the “Wild for Life” campaign of the United Nations. She took to Instagram with a message supporting Vogue Paris’ effort to promote faux fur saying: ‘So happy that @vogueparis dedicated this issue to animal protection, sending a strong message that wearing real fur is never an option!! All great designers now do beautiful #fakefur. Thank you @emmanuellealt and @inezandvinoodh for including me on this special project.’
For a long time, the fashion industry has repeatedly struggled with the question of whether to use artificial fur or not. Designers like Stella McCartney do not use animal materials for their designs. While others, indulge in the luxury feeling of the natural material, such as Karl Lagerfeld in Paris with his “Haute Fourrure” collection for Fendi.
The August issue sets a strong statement for animal protection and against the use of real fur in fashion, with Vogue Paris also taking a stand against the use of real fur.
