Saint Laurent’s Spring/Summer 2017 Campaign Comes Under Fire
Saint Laurent has been asked by the French advertising committee, Autorite de Regulation Professionnelle de la Publicite (ARPP), to modify two ads from its spring/summer 2017 campaign.
The French luxury fashion house which is part of the luxury group Kering, received plenty of backlash on social media asking to withdraw them and fifty formal complaints were received by the commission according to Reuters.
The images from the campaign which is under Anthony Vaccarello’s creative direction, features two images: One of the ads features a reclining woman in a fur coat and fishnet tights with her legs spread wide and the other shows a model in a leotard and roller skate stilettos bending over a stool.
According to the committee, it is contrary to the advertising rules and is ‘degrading’ to women. ‘We asked the brand and the ad displayer to make changes to these visuals as soon as possible,’ Stephane Martin, head of the ARPP, said. He added that the advertisements were in breach of the rules outlined by its agency which are in place to preserve the “dignity and respect in the representation of the person’.
This is not the first time that the fashion house has come under fire, in 2015 Britain’s Advertising Standards Authority banned an ad of the brand that featured a very thin model whose ribcage was showing.
Saint Laurent, did not issue an official response and the brand has not tweeted since March 3.
