Stephanie Seymour launches lingerie collection
Stephanie Seymour has launched her first lingerie collection under the name ‘Raven & Sparrow’.
The 48-year-old supermodel designed the 18-piece line together with Designer Casey Paul. As a former ‘Victoria’s Secret’ model, Seymour knows the importance of lingerie and drew on her decades of modeling experience to create the vintage-inspired line.
In her own words, the idea to design the line was born out of a need to improve lingerie specifically with a woman’s needs in mind rather than her love for it. ‘I think so much of today’s lingerie is made for men,’ Seymour told the Telegraph in an interview. ‘I wanted this collection to be specifically geared to the female customer. As a consumer I saw a hole in the market; I was looking for garments that were beautiful and alluring, yet had enough coverage to be wearable and comfortable.’
While there are many underwear lines in the market, in Seymour’s opinion, sleepwear has long been neglected. The line features stretchy silk charmeuse camisoles, tulip-print sleep shorts, and lightweight chiffon rompers which were inspired by her archive of historical undergarments. ‘I have been collecting for years,’ she said. ‘I have pieces that span 100 years ranging from cotton pintucked bloomers from the 1920s, to more glamorous silk pieces from the 1940s and 1950s. We draw inspiration from all of these pieces in the collection.’
For the campaign of her first own collection, Seymour herself posed in front of the camera of famed fashion photographer Patrick Demarchelier, who staged the shoot in her loft in SoHo. In addition, she was able to tap Bella Hadid for the campaign as well.
All pieces of were made in New York, mainly by hand with prices ranging from $125 for a printed silk camisole, and $995 for a silk charmeuse kimono robe. The ‘Raven & Sparrow’ collection is available exclusively from Barneys New York, Los Angeles and online.
