Newsmaker Of The Week: Jonathan Saunders
Our newsmaker this week is Jonathan Saunders.
The 38-year-old designer took over the reins of Diane von Furstenberg’s eponymous label having being been named chief creative officer.
Born in Scotland, Saunders graduated in Printed Textiles from Glasgow School of Art in 1999 and from Central Saint Martins in 2002 with an MA with distinction. In 2003, he launched his eponymous womenswear label after establishing his name as synonymous with innovation in the domains of print, pattern and craftsmanship.
Over the past decade he has received numerous accolades, including British Designer of the Year at the Elle Style Awards in 2007, and the British Fashion Council / Vogue Fashion Fund in 2012, and the British Fashion Award in Emerging Talent Menswear.
Saunders, who closed his eponymous label earlier this year, was long regarded as the successor to Raf Simons at Dior. He previously worked with some of fashion’s biggest labels including Alexander McQueen, Pucci, Chloe and Paul Smith, alongside collaborations with major retailers including Target, Topshop and Debenhams.
