Everything You Need To Know About The Balmain x H&M Collaboration
Since Olivier Rousteing’s unexpected announcement of collaborating with H&M in May of this year there has been much abuzz in the fashion world.
The eagerly-anticipated and glamorous collection (the second collaboration after Alexander Wang last year) which includes menswear as well as womens-wear hits stores on 5 November. Rousteing who is the most popular man in fashion right now, joins the ranks of some of the industry’s biggest names including Karl Lagerfeld, Isabel Marant, Lanvin, Versace, Stella McCartney, Donatella Versace and Alexander Wang.
Last month H&M revealed the official campaign for the collaboration, unveiling models Gigi Hadid, Kendall Jenner, Jourdan Dunn, Hao Yun Xiang and Dudley O’Shaughnessy as its stars. Photographed by Mario Sorrenti, the same photographer behind Balmain’s family-focused fall 2015 campaign, the three beauties pose super-sexy wears of studded tuxedo jackets, a structured brocade dress and trim menswear-inspired separates. They ride on a subway train alongside male models Hao Yun Xiang and Dudley O’Shaughnessy. The full collection was introduced to the world in a star-studded fashion show in New York on 20 October, with a performance from the Backstreet Boys.
Covering all categories including womens-wear, menswear and accessories, the collection includes tuxedo jackets, a monochrome jumpsuit, furry coats, military jackets, satin trousers and loads of Balmain’s trademark embellishment. Accessories include clutches, necklaces and cuffs, oversized rings, massive earrings and armour-like belts. While the clothes are conventionally beautiful and made to the highest standards of French couture, prices are expected to be in line with the affordable price range of the high street store, while some pieces are way higher than usual. An embellished dress worn by Gigi Hadid at a New York Fashion Week party is set to cost $617 while the beaded blazer that Kendall wore to the Billboard Music Awards is priced at $549. The average price tag is $78.
