A thousand designer pieces for a good cause – Victoria Beckham leads the way
About 500 clothes, shoes and accessories packed in 20 boxes was the result when Victoria Beckham cleared out her wardrobe. Those she gave to the British Red Cross Society which sold the fashion pieces two days ago in the London district Kensington for nine hours. People had been queuing already hours before the store even opened.
But why is the celebrity doing all of that?
With her charitable donation the designer is supporting “Shop Drop for the Philippines”, an initiative which collects money for South-East Asian victims of the typhoon “Haiyan”. The natural catastrophe destroyed the Philippines and was the death of thousands. Thus, the British Red Cross Society brought a gigantic project into life to provide the needy with groceries and things everybody needs for living, such as clothes. Victoria Beckham called upon people to support the project with contributions.
“Everybody of us has has something in their wardrobe which is not worn any more – a dress, a costume or even a pair of shoes which might be worn once again. Pick them out, give them away and thereby give someone else the chance to purchase them.” This is what interested parties can do in 330 shops around England.
Beside her remarkable shoe collection the socialite eliminated several designer pieces from her wardrobe, such as outfits of Dolce & Gabbana, Roberto Cavalli, Jimmy Choo or her own, among others. Also Dolce & Gabbana suits and a baseball caps collection of her husband David are on sale.
Victoria is by far not the only beneficial celebrity who supports the Philippines. Naomi Campbell and Katy Perry are just two examples of a bunch of prominence who are trying to support wherever they can.
