River Island’s latest campaign sparks outrage
The new collection by designer Georgia Hardinge for River Island has drawn more than a couple of gasps but not for the designs themselves but for the model posing in them.
It shows a scrawny model with twig-like arms and almost size zero proportions looking hungrily at the camera. The images have caused one irate observer to comment, “having a model this thin is immoral and repugnant. We can only hope the shop will learn its lesson: this collection would have been so much more impressive on a healthy body.” Australian Vogue’s ex-editor recently revealed that models were eating tissues to stay thin and to keep up appearances in the fashion world so this campaign has only added to a “hot topic.”
No comments forthcoming from River Island but besides the very thin model with the sunken cheekbones and the teeny-tiny waistline, the collection itself looks like a winner.
