New exhibition featuring Valentino’s designs to open at Somerset House
Retired Italian couturier, Valentino Garavani, will be the star or rather his designs will be, at a new exhibition set to open at the Somerset House this November.
Italy’s greatest couturier will present over 130 couture commissions designed by the “Emperor” himself. These will include designs commissioned by some of the world’s most notable figures including Jackie Kennedy, Grace Kelly and Sophia Loren. The designs will be presented along a Valentino “catwalk” and will be thematically arranged according to gowns, capes, kaftans and trouser suits.
Valentino had this to say about the upcoming exhibition in a press note released by Somerset House. “Each of these designs have a beautiful story. The atelier crafted each so diligently by hand, taking hours, sometimes days to complete….The dresses have rarely been seen, so to be able to showcase these designs at Somerset house, where they can be seen in great detail by the public is very unique.”
Valentino: Master of Couture will open its doors at the Somerset House on November 29th and will showcase not only Valentino’s dress collection but also photographs and keepsakes from his own personal archives which will give an insight into the man and not just the designer. The exhibition will end with an installation of Princess Marie-Chantal of Greece’s Valentino wedding gown which should be an absolute stunner.
The man with the “Midas” touch when it comes to designing wasn’t called “The Emperor” for nothing. This will definitely be an exhibition worth visiting.
