Elettra Rossellini Wiedemann successfully merges two worlds – fashion and healthy wholesome food.
In a world where rail-thin models are the norm and picking at food to stay true to form to make it in the fashion world is the thing to do, Elettra Rossellini has taken the bold step of introducing healthy eating into the model circuit and it seems to be working.
Elettra Rossellini Wiedemann comes from excellent pedigree. The face of the Lancome model´s mom is actress and model Isabella Rossellini who was once the face of Lancome too. Her grandmother was movie star Ingrid Bergmann. After spending more than a decade as a successful runway model, Ms. Wiedemann is joining forces with New York´s top chefs to launch pop-up restaurants. The aim is to to deliver balanced and nutritional food to designers, models, buyers and glitterati during Fashion Week and it seems to be working.
Ms. Wiedemann completed a two-year Master´s degree at LSE focusing her dissertation on feeding urban populations. The pop-up will feature celebrity chefs such as Mario Batali of Babbo, Leo Forneas of Robert, Alan Allegretti of La Promenade des Anglais and Julian Medina of Toloache, all with one aim in mind, to bring good healthy food to the well-dressed crowd.
“I´m definitely driven by the desire to provide healthy for my industry. I found it hard to find food I needed (as a runway model). Obviously I had to fit in a dress and all I could find was McDonald´s- which is obviously not conducive to walking down a runway later. Attitudes to eating disorders in the industry have changed for the better,” and “Ten years ago, there was no discussion about the dangers of the size zero affectation, now, there is open dialogue, people are speaking,” she said in one interview.
In the 80´s when Elettra was five, the little girl´s teacher asked her class, “What would you do if you got lost in the airport?”
Elettra answered without hesitation, “I´d look for my mamma´s poster and wait underneath it for help.” Back then, her mother´s flawless face was to be seen in huge advertisements in every major airport.
Looks like Elettra has not only inherited her mother´s and grandmother´s beauty but she has taken it one step further to show that she has the intelligence and the courage to change the way the world thinks, at least in the model circuit.
