Paris Hilton with the new Reality Show
She’s the multi-millionaire heiress who has carved a lucrative career for simply being famous – but Paris Hilton is insisting that her new reality TV show will show a side of herself never seen before.
The 30-year-old star reckons that the new show The World According to Paris will reveal how down-to-earth and normal she is – as she partied today in the VIP area of the Coachella Festival in California. The star was seen dressed to the nines and dancing with sister Nicky in an area fenced off from the general public. She was rubbing shoulders with other celebrities including Lindsay Lohan, Sir Paul McCartney and Britain’s Got Talent judge David Hasselhoff, who had jetted his new love Welsh beauty Hayley Roberts out to the event.
Former Simple Life star Paris meanwhile unveiled details of her new series yesterday at a press launch in Pasadena, Los Angeles, with her mother Kathy, 52, before going to Coachella to promote it today with the help of a massive advertising hoarding. Naturally, Paris’s VIP trip to the festival was being filmed by a camera crew for the new show.
She told the Television Association summer press conference yesterday: ‘On The Simple Life, I was playing a character. Now people will get to see my real world, my friends, my house, my business. I would never have done a show like this five, 10 years ago. I wasn’t really comfortable with myself. I have been through so much. I have nothing to hide. It’s like, what else can happen? I was ready to show myself.’
The World According to Paris debuts on the U.S. cable channel Oxygen on June 1, and follows Hilton, her mother Kathy, and friends including actress Brooke Mueller, Charlie Sheen’s estranged wife.
Hilton, the great-granddaughter of Hilton hotels founder Conrad Hilton, has rarely been out of the headlines over the past decade. She tried to live like normal people with then best friend Nicole Richie in The Simple Life from 2003-2007 – and generally failed miserably. She then supposedly searched for a best friend in a 2008 reality TV series, though failed to keep in touch with the ‘winner’.
However, in her life off-camera, she famously spent three weeks in a Los Angeles jail in 2007 for violating robation on a reckless driving conviction, and last year, was convicted of cocaine possession in Las Vegas. In between, she launched clothes, hair-pieces, fragrances and even a pop career.
Executive producer Arthur Smith said the new TV show was ‘an all access look at Paris.’ ‘There has been so much written about Paris over the years. This was a great opportunity to get to know the real Paris,’ he said. Smith said his view of Hilton had completely changed from his preconceptions before starting work on the series. ‘She really is so down to earth. She goes through things that every woman goes through — so many relatable things. She is also really funny and likes to have a good time,’ Smith said.
