Kate Moss forgets all about Topshop with a sexy, Seventies-style shoot
Philip Green must be kicking himself.
The Topshop owner who replaced his most famous designer, Kate Moss, with his daughter, Chloe, will be rueing his decision when he sees the supermodel’s latest shoot for Longchamp.
The Seventies-style photos were taken by Alasdair McLellan in Morocco and mark Kate’s eighth season as the face of the French luxury bag company.
In the pictures, Kate has a heavy fringe and even heavier black eyeliner. She’s pictured in a variety of sunny locations including a hammock and the desert.
The model became Longchamp’s muse in 2005 and this is the third collection she has designed for the famous brand.
The ‘Faraway’ Kate Moss for Longchamp spring/summer 2011 collection features 12 pieces divided into three special lines: ‘Faraway Chic,’ ‘Faraway on the Road,’ and ‘Faraway Exotic.’
The main colours of the collection are white, ecru, black, cream, kahki and brown. Each bag has a ‘Kate Moss for Longchamp signature on a leather label attached to the inside.
Unlike some celebrity designers, Kate had a lot of input into the collection, choosing everything from the type of leather to to various finishes.
Longchamp’s Artistic director, Sophie Delafontaine said of the Beach Bag that Kate ‘wanted this to look like a proper straw beach bag. But the traditional straw snags tights or fine fabrics of sarongs and scratches bare legs.
‘So we embossed this fine leather so that it looks like straw from afar – but it won’t do that damage, and of course it will last forever.
‘I don’t think people imagine how involved Kate is or how much thought she gives the details. She’s involved in every decision.’
The model is equally complimentary when she explains why she chose to work with Longchamp.
‘I just really like them as people,’ Kate said. ‘I find them lovely to work with.’
‘Longchamp is a family business, it’s been going for more than 60 years, and I just love the whole feeling of it.’
The trans-channel partnership involves Kate going to Paris, and Sophie visiting Kate in London.
‘Sophie would send me samples of leather, and I’d send them back with notes,’ the muse said.
‘It was all very natural and easy-going.
‘Also, because Sophie understands me, she got it straight away when I’d say things like: “I like this kind of leather.” It was lovely to work that way.’
