Miranda Kerr’s grandparents’ Australian home destroyed

The home of Miranda Kerr‘s Australian grandparents has been destroyed by fire after being struck by lightning.
She spent much of her childhood visiting the property in Gunnedah, New South Wales, 270 miles north-west of Sydney.
Miranda, a model for Victoria’s Secret and the Aussie department store David Jones, is eight-months’ pregnant with her and husband’s Orlando Bloom’s first baby.
Sydney’s Daily Telegraph newspaper reports her paternal grandfather, Peter, was taking an afternoon nap at the timber-built house on Wednesday when he heard a loud bang, thought to be a lightning strike, at around 2pm local time.
Peter and his wife Anne called the fire brigade before fleeing the property.
They then watched as their home became engulfed by flames.
Anne, known locally as ‘Nan’, lost most of her antique collection in the blaze.
The couple were believed to have been planning to join Miranda’s parents, John and Therese, in Los Angeles ahead of the birth of her first child.
Police and fire crews remained at the house for three hours until the flames were finally extinguished.
A police spokesman said the structure of the house had been damaged and it was not yet known if it could be saved or will have to be demolished.
‘The damage was extensive. We are not treating the fire as suspicious,’ he said.
The couple are believed to be staying with a relative and are expected to revisit their property today to see what they can salvage.
Miranda Kerr has not yet commented on what happened.
Her management was said to be unaware of the drama when they were contacted.
