‘I want everbody to love me’ pleads Carla Bruni in web video

French First Lady Carla Bruni has made an impassioned plea for ‘everybody to love me’.
It follows devastating criticism aimed at the 42-year-old following rumours of an extra-marital affair, and claims that she is overdoing plastic surgery in a bid to remain young and beautiful.
Nine days after being pictured looking the worst for wear as she voted in regional elections with her husband, President Nicolas Sarkozy, Miss Bruni appears in a highly controlled video posted on the internet.
In it the supermodel turned pop singer says: ‘I want everybody to love me, I’m like all humans.’
Light and make-up have clearly been strictly monitored in the video to make sure that there are no signs of the lines, blotches and puffed-up skin which made her look so strange in the unauthorized photos.
Instead she smiles into the camera, and says she doesn’t actually care too much about what people say about her, unless they are in her ‘intimate circle’.
Referring to what appears in the media, Miss Bruni, who still uses her maiden name in her career as a singer, says: ‘I don’t pay much attention to it, perhaps because it would affect me too much. In fact, it doesn’t affect me at all, because I don’t look at any of it.’
Expanding on her ‘love me’ comment, Miss Bruni said: ‘I would prefer that to people detesting me. I’d like them to understand me. It’s not always the case. But it’s not too serious.’
Ironically, Miss Bruni’s comments were made to Madame Figaro, the mass circulation glossy magazine of a national newspaper, which she is ‘guest editing’ this week.
Just before her marriage to Mr Sarkozy she infamously told an interviewer for the same publication that ‘monogamy bores me’.
Although she has since said that she has changed her views, earlier this month it was claimed she had been secretly romancing Benjamin Biolay, a French singer six years her junior.
It has been suggested that the beauty – who has in the past had numerous affairs with celebrities including English rock stars Eric Clapton and Mick Jagger – enjoyed a romantic holiday in Thailand with the musician.
At the same time, President Sarkozy, 55, was linked to his ecology minister Chantal Jouanno, 40, and also a karate champion.
Soon afterwards embarrassing photographs of the First Lady showing off her bottom during her modelling days were auctioned.
Responding to questions on the Madame Figaro internet video, Miss Bruni suggested that her ‘triple role’ of being a First Lady, ‘artist’ and housewife meant she had little time for anything else.
‘I try to be organised,’ she said. ‘It’s not too difficult. The most difficult bit is reconciling my artistic life and my life as a mother. I like to work at night.’
Referring to her nine year old son, Aurelian, the product of a love affair with philosopher Raphael Enthoven, she said: ‘Since my son was born, I wake up early in the morning.
‘My work as First Lady did not devour my work as an artist. It’s a matter of rhythm and hours. To write, for me, it’s mostly at night. My family life is mainly during the day.’
Miss Bruni, who recorded the video at her home in Paris, added: ‘Therefore I don’t sleep anymore. No, I’m joking.’
