Erin O’Connor wants the fashion world to be seen in a positive light. The supermodel is the spokesperson for Textile Recycling for Aid and International Development (TRAID) – a charity raising urgently needed funds to fight global poverty through its clothes recycling and environmental activities in the UK – and wants to use her involvement to show a different side to the industry. She said: ‘I suppose I’ve had one version of the fashion industry and now I’m going out and having a tweak here and there. ‘I’m interested in looking for solutions because it’s become the case that in fashion you’re either a villain or a victim. Look at the industry’s very limited remit in terms of body size, for example. I always felt there had to reasonable banter to start going backwards and forth. That’s how you make positive change.’ Erin also set up the Model Sanctuary – which offers respite and a full-time nutritionist to very young models – as she knows they need help when starting out. She the Observer Magazine: ‘These are really young people. They don’t always realise that they need to set their own boundaries.’
